FAQ
Questions people ask
Plain answers. Where we have not decided something yet, we say so.
What happens if I get locked out?
Seico is built to avoid it. Before any blocking starts it allows the connection you are installing from. If your connection drops while blocking is being switched on, the change undoes itself. Keep a second SSH window open while you install as an extra safety net. If you are ever locked out, use your hosting provider's console to reach the server, and tell us what happened.
How do I uninstall it?
Removal is one step, and the instructions come with your installer. It removes what Seico added and keeps everything that was already on the server. You can also remove the server from your dashboard, which cuts off its access at once.
What data leaves my server?
The helper sends: the server name, operating system and helper version; load, memory, disk and uptime figures; whether the protection parts are running; for failed logins, the address, the user name that was tried, how many times and by which method; for blocked attackers, the address, the reason and how long; and the results of the regular security check, including its warnings. It does not read your files, emails or databases. See the privacy notice for where this goes. If AI notes are switched on, a short summary of recent events is sent to an AI provider. This list is the current design and is checked before the pilot starts.Privacy notice.
What does the score mean?
A score out of 100 that guides where to look first. It is not a guarantee. The page lists the reasons behind the number. See how the score works for more. How the score works.
Does it need root?
The installer needs sudo, because it installs software and sets up blocking. After that, the Seico helper runs under its own limited account with no administrator rights.
How is Seico itself updated?
During the pilot, you update by running a newer installer from your account, checked with its checksum. Automatic updates are not available. Final update process: [TO CONFIRM: update process after the pilot]
Which AI provider writes the notes?
AI notes are optional, off unless switched on, and always labelled as suggestions. Provider: [TO CONFIRM: AI provider name]
What is the pilot and what does it cost?
The pilot is early access for a few users who try Seico on their servers and tell us how it went. Cost: [TO CONFIRM: pilot pricing and length]
Does Seico make my server safe?
No. Seico is not a promise of safety. It makes common attacks harder and easier to notice. Keep your own updates, backups and passwords in good order.
